A novel multi-wire SMA-based actuator with high-frequency displacement

Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) are a group of metallic alloys that can return to their original shape when subjected temperature transformation between two phases. SMAs have been used as an alternative solution conventional actuators in different applications the robotics, biomedical, aerospace and automation domains because characteristics; being one leading solutions fields such soft robotics bio-inspired mechanisms. However, these still limited due operating frequency, electrical efficiency, control performance non-linearities. This paper presents new multi-wire actuator structure based on SMA, with activation strategies. By combining use SMA way, overall recovery time is reduced. Thus, higher frequencies be achieved reference signal. In this study, effect diameter, geometry wires evaluated configurations. Firstly, produces linear displacement and, secondly, antagonistic configuration where final rotating movement. The results prove frequency increases considerably, compared only wire used. Moreover, it stated improves using thinner diameter temperature, weights closer maximum force supported geometrical disposition brings them close possible.
